Eight North West games businesses have signed up to a trade mission to Gamescom, the world’s largest trade fair for interactive games and entertainment. The trip to Cologne is organised by Enterprise Europe Network North West (EENW), which is taking games developers, distributors and publishers from the region to the fair later this month.

The University of Salford has poached Paula Barrow from the University of Manchester to be its new director of marketing. Barrow, who was the head of university marketing at Manchester and previously spent nine years as director of marketing and communications at Manchester Business School, will be responsible for brand development, web and social media marketing and international student recruitment.

West Yorkshire-based agency Faith PR has secured a new account win from Swedish beauty company Oriflame after a competitive pitch. Faith will work with Oriflame to create a strong brand for the company as it expands in the UK and Ireland.

Manchester-based hosting company Melbourne has appointed an e-commerce specialist to strengthen its commercial team. Amy Shapiro joins Melbourne after four years with menswear boutique Intro, where she was responsible for creating and managing the brand’s online presence.

Smooth Radio is to move out of Manchester with its entire programming team moving to Global Radio's headquarters in London, it was announced this morning. Global Radio released the news in a group-wide announcement at 9.30 as it begins the process of integrating parts of Real & Smooth Ltd into its business.

Global Radio has agreed a partnership with games media business Gamer Network to produce regular gaming content for XFM. Jo Good's weekday afternoon show will feature fortnightly gaming news slots from the Network's Mike Channell, and it will also produce regular video content for the XFM website.

Yorkshire athletes Jessica Ennis-Hill and Nicola Adams have been named as sporting ambassadors for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. Sheffield heptathlete Ennis-Hill and Leeds boxer Adams, who both won gold at the London Olympics, have been named alongside Scots Michael Jamieson, David Carry and Allan Wells.

Manchester-based "challenger bank" Aldermore has appointed Equimedia to handle its digital marketing strategy, media planning and buying. The agency, which was hired after a competitive pitch, has been tasked with recruiting new savings, mortgages and invoice finance accounts, as well as attracting SMEs looking for business savings accounts.

Ratings agency, Moody’s, has given ITV a boost, by upgrading its debt ratings. Analyst Christian Azzi, Moody’s lead for ITV explained that they were upgrading the company from Ba1 (speculative investment, with significant credit risk) to Baa3 (low-to-moderate level of risk for investors).

New Liverpool agency, Mint Umbrella, has won two accounts with telecoms firm, CPR Global and software company, Siteon. The agency was launched in December last year by Clare Barber-Delve and Nicky Rigby-Smith.
