Zinc eyes growth through acquisitions

A “year of record achievement” is how Zinc Media’s CEO has described the last 12 months, as he looked ahead to further organic growth and “strategic acquisitions.”

Zinc, which has offices in Cheshire, Manchester and Glasgow is behind shows including Sunday Morning Live, Putin vs The West and Bargain-Loving Brits in the Sun.

In its end of year results, it announced a record year for both revenue and profit, with turnover up 34% to £40.2m (FY2: £30.1m) and adjusted EBITDA of £1m (FY22: £0.1m).

It stated that revenue growth was driven by a 19% organic increase in television revenues (£3.9m) alongside a full year contribution of The Edge which it acquired in August 2022.

Loss before tax “narrowed considerably” to £2.0m (FY22: £3.3m).

The group said it was also diversifying with television production now accounting for 60% of the Group’s revenues – compared to 67% in 2022. Production for brands and businesses makes up for the remaining 40%.

23% of income is generated internationally.

Within the broadcasting division, 15 television series were recommissioned, along with 6 new series “which have the potential to return in future years.”

It produced 250 hours of television, up from 194 the previous year, including Putin vs The West; Deborah James: Bowelbabe in Her Own Words; and Gender Wars.

The company also received its biggest ever US TV commission worth $9m, for Top Gun: The Next Generation (working title). This will be aired on the National Geographic Channel.

There was also a £7m+ Channel 5 order, spanning 2 years and 136 hours, of Bargain Loving Brits.

Branded content included Big in America with Alex Polizzi, commissioned by the Department for Business & Trade and broadcast on LinkedIn.

“This has been a year of record achievement for the Group and comes off the back of significant investment in our people and our businesses along with our acquisition of The Edge 18 months ago. We have big ambitions to scale this Group through organic expansion and strategic acquisition,” said Mark Browning, CEO of Zinc Media Group.

Zinc’s production companies include Brook Lapping, Red Sauce, Supercollider, Tern Television, Rex and Atomic, along with Bumblebee Post Production.
