Clio Barnard’s Dark River to shoot in Yorkshire

Clio Barnard is returning to Yorkshire this summer, to film her new project, Dark River.

Barnard wrote and directed the critically acclaimed feature, The Selfish Giant, which was shot in Bradford. The former student at Leeds College of Art, also won awards and acclaim for her first project, The Arbor.

She has also written and directed, Dark River, which is produced by Tracy O’Riordan’s Moonspun Films, with investment from Screen Yorkshire’s Yorkshire Content Fund.

No details about the screenplay have yet been released, however, it is known that Ruth Wilson (Luther, Saving Mr Banks), who won a Golden Globe for her role in The Affair, will play the lead.

The film is backed by Film4 and Wellcome Trust. Left Bank Pictures is producing, with backing from the BFI and Screen Yorkshire. Protagonist Pictures will handle international sales.
