Behind the scenes images have been released of Danny Boyle’s recreation of The Matrix.
Factory International’s Free Your Mind is a large-scale immersive performance based on The Matrix films and has been especially created for the official opening of the multimillion pound Manchester venue.
Boyle directs the performance and is working with composer Michael ‘Mikey J’ Asante and choreographer Kenrick ‘H2O’ Sandy.
The production features 50 professional dancers and almost 100 participants, with action taking place throughout the building’s spaces.
The show has been produced by BAFTA-winning producer Tracey Seaward and has been designed to showcase the breadth and ambition of Factory International’s artistic programme.
It will recreate some of the film’s most iconic scenes through hip-hop choreography combined with immersive set design and visual effects, provoking visions of an alternate future.
It journeys from 1999, when The Matrix was first released, to present day and the Metaverse.
Free Your Mind is a world premiere commissioned and produced by Factory International. It has been produced by by special arrangement with Warner Bros Theatre Ventures.
Tthe premiere takes place on 18th October.
