Spice Girl follows Ed Sheeran and Enter Shikari with football shirt deal

Melanie C has become the latest musician to sign a football shirt sponsorship deal.

The Spice Girl will become front-of-shirt sponsor of Sheffield FC’s women’s first team for the 2026/27 season.

The club said that all of the money raised through sales of the women’s shirt will go directly towards supporting its women’s team and grassroots girls’ football initiatives.

“It is an honour to support the Women’s team at Sheffield FC,” said Melanie C.

“Sheffield holds such a special place in my heart, having been such a big part of my career over the last 30 years — from writing and recording Say You’ll Be There with the Spice Girls in the city, to our first stadium show at Don Valley, and my first ever solo gig at the iconic Leadmill.

“Growing up in Liverpool, football is in my DNA, and to see the incredible growth of the women’s game, from grassroots to the international stage, is so exciting. To now have the opportunity to be part of that journey at the oldest football club in the world makes me incredibly proud.

“I’m loving the new kit and will be wearing it with pride. I can’t wait to be cheering the team on from the sidelines!”

The men’s first team will have the Meadowhall logo on the front of the shirt.

Melanie C follows a growing tradition of artists putting their name on club shirts. Ed Sheeran famously sponsors Ipswich Town, while Enter Shikari have their name on their home town, St Alban’s kit.

Clydebank FC carried Wet Wet Wet on their kit back in 1993, while FC Barcelona’s Spotify deal means a revolving logo ranging from Drake to Coldplay and the Rolling Stones.

Meanwhile Oasis, at one time linked with a potential Manchester City deal, are among a host of artists who’ve shared front-of-shirt space on Cwmbran Celtic FC’s kit – others including Super Furry Animals, Loose Articles and Mogwai.

Bohemians joined forces with Fontaines DC, and Margate have carried The Libertines name since 2018.
