A North West-based marketing firm worked with Cammell Laird on the recent naming of the UK’s new £200 million polar research vessel, the RRS Sir David Attenborough.

Polaris Media, which has offices in Manchester and Ellesmere Port, has worked on the project since 2016 and last week helped manage the third major event related to the ship at the shipyard.

The ceremony saw the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge join Sir David for the official naming in front of a crowd of 3,000 people.

Polaris managing director Ben Pinnington said the company was providing a range of services including media management, brochure design, social media, film, and photography.

“It is a privilege to work on this project which has caught worldwide media attention,” he said. “These are the jobs you dream of when you set up in business.”

Polaris provided media management in partnership with the comms team at the British Antarctic Survey and the National Environmental Research Council, together with the Department of Business Energy and Industrial Strategy. So far nearly 1,000 pieces of media coverage and 145 interviews have been generated from the event which was one of the main news stories of the day.

Polaris’ team has worked with Cammell Laird since 2008 and specialises in PR and marketing services for the maritime, energy, engineering, manufacturing, construction and tech sectors.
