Sky has confirmed that the second series of Mission to Burnley will air ahead of this weekend’s Championship kick off.
All 4 episodes will drop on SkySports+ weekly from 9th August, before launching on Sky Documentaries and NOW in September.
While the first series focused on the club’s triumphant return to the Premier League, season 2 will look at their battle to remain in the top flight… Should we have said spoiler alert? Anyway…
The series is produced by Ad Hoc Films, makers of ‘The Four Year Plan’, exclusively for Sky Documentaries. It was commissioned by Jamie Morris, Director of Programmes and Jack Oliver, Head of Co-productions at Sky. Daniel Glynn and Jamie Munro return as Executive Producers on the series, as do Showrunner Mat Hodgson, and series director Tom Magnus. The series is produced by Patrick Nathanson and Victoria Hepburn.
“We were delighted to hear how well series one of Mission to Burnley was received and even more delighted when Sky Documentaries greenlit this even more warts and all second series,” said Glynn.
“It’s an unvarnished, powerful watch showcasing in stark detail just what it takes to play in, manage and run a club competing in the biggest footballing league in the world. Fans of sports docs are in for a jaw dropping treat.”
The documentary will examine the pressure mounting on manager Vincent Kompany and American owner Alan Pace, with the boardroom expecting results. There is also growing criticism from fans and pundits as the club sits in the relegation zone.
