A well known Manchester-born brunch brand is set to open its first Yorkshire site this autumn.
Founded in 2014 by Claudio Ribeiro, Federal started out in Manchester’s Northern Quarter, inspired by the neighbourhood cafés of New Zealand and Australia. It now operates venues on Deansgate, Oxford Road and in Altrincham, and describes itself as Manchester’s number one brunch spot.

The new 1,500 sq ft café on Boar Lane in Leeds city centre will seat 70 guests and serve Federal’s trademark all-day brunch menu, featuring dishes such as French toast, steak and eggs, and halloumi and shrooms alongside regular specials.
Federal was recently ranked the UK’s most popular independent café in a study by Betway, and placed fourth worldwide, generating more than 1.1m TikTok views and almost 400,000 annual Google searches.
Ribeiro said Leeds was a “natural next step” for the business: “Leeds has many similarities to Manchester with the same buzz and a growing independent brunch and coffee scene… Now feels like the perfect time to bring the Federal experience to Yorkshire.”
Each Federal venue is designed with its own look while retaining a community feel. The Leeds site is being fitted out with bright colours, greenery, artwork and an open kitchen ahead of its opening later this year.
