Manchester consumer goods group acquires huge global slimming brand in £20m+ deal

Supreme PLC, the fast-growing Manchester-based consumer goods group has acquired the UK and European arm of SlimFast, one of the UK’s most well-established and recognisable brands in the health and nutrition market.

The deal sees Supreme acquire SlimFast from Glanbia PLC, the global nutrition company that also owns Optimum Nutrition for £20.1million. SlimFast will sit within Supreme PLC’s well-established Drinks & Wellness division and join a suite of other well-known brands including Typhoo Tea, Red Mountain Coffee, Clearly Drinks and 1001 Carpet & Upholstery Cleaner.

Supreme chief executive Sandy Chadha said: “SlimFast is one of the most recognised and well-established names in nutrition. We’re excited to bring fresh energy to this iconic brand and reposition it for the next generation. With SlimFast, we want to focus on supporting people of all ages and demographics, ensuring they have options on the shelf to make the right choices for their own individual health and wellness journeys.”

Supreme PLC will be bringing the SlimFast brand under its “vertically integrated model” that spans development, manufacturing, and distribution to over 55,000 UK retail outlets. Supreme’s strategy and experience of acquiring, modernising, and scaling heritage brands has seen group revenues exceed £245 million.

Chadha continued: “There are huge opportunities to revitalise this brand and ensure it remains a key player in the rapidly growing health and wellness market. We’re investing in its future, putting plans in place to expand the distribution channels and product lines to ensure that SlimFast will be back where it belongs on the shelves, in the fridges, and in the hearts of UK shoppers.”

Founded in 1977 in the US, SlimFast is a heritage weight management brand, known for its meal replacement shakes, bars, snacks, and weight loss plans. SlimFast has a strong position in formats including ready-to-drink and ready-to-mix powder products, as well as an ‘Advanced Nutrition’ range, which includes high-protein, high-fibre, gluten-free meal replacement shakes and smoothies. SlimFast’s UK and European established sales footprint comprises Amazon, Home Bargains, B&M, Asda, Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Morrisons.
