BBC Scotland has announced a new slate of indie factual commissions.
These include Firecrest Film’s definitive account of the 2007 Glasgow Airport attack. The 2 x 60 minute documentary, Terror at the Terminal tells the story of the failed attacks that targeted London’s West End and Glasgow Airport.
Combining first-hand testimony, archive and CCTV, the series takes viewers inside one of the most significant counter-terrorism investigations in modern British history.
“Terror at the Terminal will take viewers inside the dramatic events that saw Scotland become the target for a new and evolving form of international terrorism,” explained Mick McAvoy, Executive Producer at Firecrest Films.
“Directed by award-winning filmmaker Matt Pinder, it combines extraordinary testimony from those who faced the terrorists, investigated the plots and led the security response, with remarkable archive to tell a gripping story of terror, courage and the race to stop a new threat.”
Finestripe Productions will be making Tommy Sheridan: Caught in the Headlines (w/t). The 2 x 60 minute account of one of Scotland’s “most charismatic and controversial political figures” features exclusive access to Tommy Sheridan and, for the first time, his wife Gail, the series charts his journey from anti-poll tax campaigner and socialist MSP to the scandals, court cases and imprisonment that transformed his public reputation.

“Forty years on from the campaigns that made his name, Tommy Sheridan remains one of the most talked-about and controversial figures in Scottish public life,” said Lorraine McKechnie, Executive Producer Finestripe Productions.
“Until now, he has refused to tell his story. This is an intimate and uncompromising look at Sheridan, with access to his wife, Gail, and the inner circle who helped shape his rise – and were caught up in the fallouts, betrayals and scandals that came with it.”
Rogan Productions is behind the 6 x 30 minute series, Mythland, which will explore the enduring power of myths and legends.
Paranormal Psychologist Evelyn Hollow, and Comedian Zara Gladman travel across Scotland in search of legendary creatures, mysterious tales, and modern folklore, discovering how myths old and new continue to evolve, unsettle and refuse to stay in the past.
Finally, BBC Scotland has confirmed that Murder Case will return later this year. Also made by Firecrest, it will focus on 3 cases – the murder of Cameron Logan in an arson attack while he slept in the family home; the mysterious vanishing of bookkeeper Suzanne Pilley on her way to work in Edinburgh; and the cold case of Marion Hodge whose elderly husband was set to stand trial over 40 years after her disappearance.
Louise Thornton, Head of Commissioning, BBC Scotland said:
“This new slate reflects our commitment to bringing audiences a range of genres and perspectives and demonstrates the remarkable breadth of factual storytelling being made in Scotland today.
“The independent production sector in Scotland continues to deliver world-class programmes with creativity, expertise and a deep understanding of the stories that matter here and beyond. We’re proud to work with such a talented production community to bring such compelling content to audiences.”
