BBC Sounds Audio Lab has commissioned 4 new podcasts, half of which are from the North of England.
The Audio Lab picked 4 creators, from hundreds of applicants to take part in the 7 month accelerator, which included professional and practical training with production partners.
Adam Batty’s MF DOOM, Long Island to Leeds has been produced by Sheffield’s Persephonica with BBC Sounds Audio Lab.
Across the 5 episodes, BBC 6 Music DJ AFRODEUTSCHE and Adam Batty tell the story of how a New York-based icon of hip hop, found himself living in relative obscurity in Yorkshire. Guests include fans and contemporaries such as Romesh Ranganathan and MC Paul Barman. It also features a specially composed soundtrack by Matt Helders of Arctic Monkeys.

Another podcast series, It’s So Loud In Here! by Keira Edwards has been produced by BBC Audio North.
This looks at the neurodivergent mind and discovers the impact of noise in everyday life. This varies from taking the bus into work to going to sleep at night, every sound has an invisible cost.
Listeners will hear how overwhelming a quiet office can be, how stressful it is to feel out of control or how having fun can increase your tolerance to noise.
The other podcast series are Made in China by Eva Brookes and Judged – A Mother’s Love by Katie Bridget Murphy

BBC Sounds Audio Lab launched in 2021 to aid the next generation of podcasters and open up the industry to a wider range of people.
