Persephonica supports BBC search for next generation of podcasters

BBC Sounds Audio Lab returns this year, to find the next generation of audio creatives and podcasters.

The accelerator is now in its 4th year and will give 4 creators a full-time Assistant Producer salary for 7 months, plus training and support.

The BBC will work with production partners including BBC Audio Scotland in Glasgow; Sheffield’s Persephonica and BBC Audio North at MediaCity.

To date the programme has seen great success, with previous participants picking up British Podcast Awards. Audio Lab alumni Adam Zmith’s Press Play, Turn On from Audible, won the Podcast of the Year award. While Tommy Dixon, creator of the ARIA Award-winning Colouring in Britain, now produces podcasts for BBC World Service and made a series with BBC Radio 1Xtra.

“We are proud to bring back BBC Sounds Audio Lab for its fourth year, continuing our commitment to nurturing emerging talent and fostering creative new ideas from across the UK,” said Khaliq Meer, Commissioning Executive for BBC Sounds Audio Lab.

“With podcast listenership at an all-time high and BBC Sounds seeing 2.3 billion plays across all content in 2024, there has never been a better time for the next generation to join us and benefit from the unparalleled support and resources we and our partners can offer.”

Applications open on Tuesday 14 January 2025 on the BBC Careers Hub, and close on Tuesday 11 February 2025.
