Residents of Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch found out today that they’d been unofficially twinned with Chelsea FC, by Paddy Power.
The betting firm changed the sign for the famous North Wales village to “Twinned with Chelsea FC, the only place with more Ls.”
The big spending London club amassed a total of 16 losses in this current Premier League season, with the last one inflicted by Manchester United.
It may be the longest place name in the UK, but Llanfairpwllgwyngyll, has just 11 Ls in comparison.
“And with football booming in Wales at the moment, with Hollywood A-listers catapulting a certain local club to major success (at least some American investors are successful, eh), we thought Chelsea might benefit from some Welsh magic,” said Paddy Power.
“With a population of just 3,000, they might need the support of every single resident of Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch come Sunday to avoid another L.”
The “twinning” comes ahead of Chelsea’s final game of the season against high flying favourites, Newcastle United.
