Podcasting around the Premier League has reached a milestone moment, with all 20 clubs now represented by at least one dedicated show on Sport Social Podcast Network, plus nine Premier League clubs producing official podcasts.
Premier League clubs are accelerating their podcast strategies, with nine teams now producing official shows on the Sport Social Podcast Network, marking a clear signal of the medium’s growing power to engage and retain fans. The trend is mirrored globally, with Spotify reporting that soccer podcast listening in the US has surged by more than 380% since the start of the current competition, making it the number one market for soccer podcast consumption worldwide for the first time.
This growth in official club content is complemented by a thriving ecosystem of fan-led podcasts and independent coverage with every Premier League club represented on Sport Social.
The split highlights how the market has evolved: From a fan-led medium into a mix of independent “fancasts” and rights-holder content. While every club now has a podcast presence, nearly half the league is also investing in official productions as part of their media and communications strategy. Sport Social Podcast Network has expanded both sides of that ecosystem over the past year, working with several recent launches from official Premier League teams.
The remaining clubs continue to be represented by highly established fan-led shows, underlining the strength and longevity of independent voices within football podcasting. The growth reflects a wider shift in how clubs are engaging supporters, moving beyond traditional channels and social media to develop long-form, direct-to-fan audio and video.
The rise in official output suggests clubs are beginning to treat podcasts as a core communications channel, offering more control over messaging and a deeper level of engagement than shorter-form platforms.
Jim Salveson, director of sport at Sport Social Podcast Network, said: “This feels like a real milestone for football podcasting. Fan voices have always had a strong presence in the space but having a fantastic selection of shows covering every Premier League team is a real testament to Sport Social Podcast Network and how it supports creators.
“What’s changing rapidly is that clubs are entering the space with a clear understanding of podcasting’s potential to connect directly with their fans. They also recognise its unique ability to host meaningful conversations that build trust and engage new audiences. The blend of official content and independent fan voices is creating a much more complete and mature ecosystem around the league.”
For clubs, the shift towards official podcasts reflects growing confidence in audio as a controlled, long-form channel to reach supporters directly. For the wider industry, it marks a point where podcasting has moved from niche to infrastructure within football media.
Sport Social hosts more than 700 sports podcasts overall, with football continuing to drive growth across both official and independent shows. The platform continues to scale as a central hub for both official voices and passionate fan perspectives, reflecting the surging demand for always-on football content.
