Marc Jacobs and Ninja air fryers: Very Group’s surprising top sellers behind £2bn sales boost

Sales at £2bn+ revenue etailer Very UK were up 2.3% year-on-year in the seven weeks to 27 December, while group revenue grew 0.5%.

Fashion and sports were up 2.9% YoY, with good growth in menswear over the period, which included Black Friday and the festive period. Excluding Nike, which has switched to a direct-to-consumer model, the category has increased 11.2%.

Including Littlewoods and Very Ireland, group retail sales grew 0.5% year on year for the seven-week peak peak trading period.

Annualising against a period which included significant gaming product releases, including the PlayStation 5 console and Xbox Series X console, electrical decreased -2.1% year on year, but saw good growth in Apple products and computing.

Among the top selling items by sales value were the PlayStation 5 console, Meta quest 3 console and Ninja Foodi Dual Zone air fryer. Top selling items by volume included Marc Jacobs perfumes, Silentnight pillows and LEGO Disney Stitch.

The Very Group now expects a second-quarter group adjusted EBITDA growth of between 16% and 18%.
