Channel 5 to screen Willy Wonka Experience doc

Channel 5 has commissioned a new hour-long documentary exploring the doomed Willy Wonka Chocolate Experience in Glasgow, which was shut down by police last month after it went viral (and not in a good way).

The organisers of the ‘experience,’ House of Illuminati, was forced to cancel the event which promised a world of pure imagination, after parents who had paid £35 for a ticket demanded their money back on turning up to a near-empty warehouse with a handful of Wonka-themed props, a small bouncy castle and some miserable looking actors.

Kirsty Patterson, an actress whose profile received an unexpected, and perhaps not entirely welcome, boost when shots of her as an oompah loompah spread across social media, told Good Morning Britain last week: “They told us this was going to be pantomime style and that we were going to perform as they walked through. But what happened is, they gave us the scripts the night before and I remember on the Friday when I went it looked like [an empty rubbish warehouse with nothing in it].”

The one-off doc will air on Saturday March 16, and will be preceded by a repeat of Inside Cadbury: The Real Chocolate Factory, which at least features a functioning chocolate factory.
