Beanz meanz Bluey for newest Alton Towers Resort ride

Alton Towers Resort has unveiled a giant portrait of Bluey made from over 11,000 cans of beans to announce the opening date of the world’s first Bluey rollercoaster.

PR, influencer and social media agency Smoking Gun was behind the enormous artwork, which measures 20 by 15 metres and took 18 hours to complete. It appeared on the park’s iconic lawn near CBeebies Land ahead of Bluey the Ride: Here Come the Grannies! officially opening on March 28.

Featuring Bluey in her beloved granny disguise complete with headscarf, the installation comprised 11,494 tins.

The experiential stunt is the latest chapter in Smoking Gun’s storytelling for the park’s attractions, including its successful campaigns to bring back the legendary Nemesis ride and launch The Curse At Alton Manor.

Bean cans feature in the fan-favourite “Grannies” episode of the multi–Emmy-winning animated TV series, where Bluey and Bingo dress up as Janet and Rita – mischievous grannies with a habit for slipping on beans.

The giant installation featuring Bluey dressed as Janet, has brought one of the show’s most-loved alter egos to life at Alton Towers Resort, also home to CBeebies Land, and kicks off the countdown to the ride’s opening.

Howard Ebison, vice president of Alton Towers Resort said: “Bluey the Ride: Here Come the Grannies! is all about celebrating energy, play and those everyday moments families love about the show.

“The ‘Grannies’ episode is a firm favourite with our guests, so creating a giant Bluey made from more than 11,000 bean cans felt like the perfect way to mark the countdown to opening day.

“It’s playful, unexpected and unmistakably Bluey – and we can’t wait to welcome families from March 28 to experience the world’s first Bluey coaster right here at Alton Towers Resort.”

Rick Guttridge, founder and CEO of Smoking Gun, added: “It’s rare two worlds that encompass such brand love and fandom collide, so for Bluey and Alton Towers Resort we knew we had to go big. The response from the media and anticipation from the public is electric.

“We relish building powerful narratives for clients that we can bring to life in commercially impactful and creative ways. And with Bluey at Alton Towers Resort, the story is only just beginning.”

Bluey the Ride: Here Come the Grannies! is specifically designed for pre-schoolers and young families who are taken on a journey through the Heeler house backyard.

Alongside the new coaster and existing Bluey experiences – including the popular meet-and-greet with Mum (Chilli), Dad (Bandit), Bluey and Bingo and live experiences within Big Fun Showtime, Alton Towers Resort has announced plans to introduce additional Bluey-themed hotel rooms at the CBeebies Land Hotel.

Bluey is the number one show on CBeebies in the UK and has been streamed over one billion times since it launched on BBC iPlayer.
