BBC Sport presenter joins Altrincham FC as Director

Mark Chapman

BBC Sport presenter Mark Chapman has joined National League football club Altrincham FC as a Director.

Recently-filed documents at Companies House revealed his appointment at the club. It follows the news that Chapman will also be part of the new line-up for BBC Radio 5 Live’s football offering for the 2022-23 season.

Growing up in Altrincham and known as the ‘Voice of Sport’ with over 25 years of broadcasting experience, Chapman has presented sport shows including BBC’s Match of the Day 2, BBC 5 Live’s show Sports Report and Monday Night Club.

He was one of the first to do the Master of Sport Directorship course at Manchester Metropolitan University, to qualify as a sporting director.

Speaking at the time about the course he said: “Over the last 10 years I’ve been lucky to work on so many different sports and can hopefully see some of the things that have worked and some that haven’t.

“There are so many more facets to a club or county or franchise than there were 10 years ago, let alone 20 or 30. I think the Sporting Director role will become increasingly important going forward.”

Altrincham FC is also set to launch a crowdfunding campaign on Seedrs to offer fans the opportunity to purchase an ownership stake in the club.
