Winner revealed for 2021 University Entrepreneurs Grant

The winner of the University Entrepreneurs Grant, as chosen by Dr Jacob Salder and Phil Hodari, has been revealed this morning (March 4th).

As reported yesterday, the winner was revealed on Heart Yorkshire, Smooth North West and Smooth North East, three Northern radio stations run by Communicorp UK.

The University Entrepreneurs Grant is part of the Educate North Awards, the regional awards ceremony for FE and HE institutions which recently moved virtual, and now takes place on Thursday 22nd April 2021. The finalists, announced yesterday, were the University of York’s Nihad Cehic, University of Chester’s Jade Rice, and two from the University of Manchester – Dr Mohammad El Hajj and Riddi Viswanathan.

Their business plans were scrutinised by the judges – Phil Hodari, CEO of The Pilot Group, and Dr Jacob Salder of the Masood Entrepreneurship Centre (MEC), the awards’ official patron – before naming their winner in the video below.


The prize includes a grant of £1000 to develop the business plan, access to a mentor, publicity and the opportunity to return in 12 months to update everyone on their progress.

Previous University Entrepreneurs Grant winners include Dave Clayton of UCLan for Wot wud u do?, Sharmaine Mundozoof UCLan with Joy Pad, and Emma Woollard of the University of Chester with The Language Guys.
