Audio Academy announces student bursaries for November’s PodFest North in Liverpool

The UK’s newest podcast event has partnered with the audio industry charity which promotes excellence in UK audio and radio.

PodFest North, a gathering of successful podcasters, experts in audience, AI and the future of podcasts to be held in Liverpool next month is working with the Audio Academy to support a bursary scheme for students.

The Student Radio Association will select beneficiaries who will then be able to attend the festival, on Friday 13th November, for free.

“There’s a growing appetite for events focussing on podcasting across the UK and we were excited to see the line-up of speakers and topics presented at PodFest North,” said Aradhna Tayal Leach (pictured), managing director of the Audio Academy, said. “By supporting the bursary we are keen to help those at the very start of their career. We hope they will make local audio connections and develop skills which will lead to long-lasting careers in our evolving and thriving sector.”

Podcasters behind The Anfield Wrap, Space Boffins, The Beast of Birkenhead and Married to Machine will speak alongside guests including BBC audience strategist Adam Bowie and Audio UK chair Bernard Achampong. Dr Caroline Mitchell, Professor of Radio and Participation at the University of Sunderland, will be part of a panel discussing how podcasting may evolve. The event will be held at The Liner Hotel in Liverpool from 9.30-16.30 on Friday 13th November.

“We’ve been delighted by the reaction so far to PodFest North and being able to gather such an amazing line-up in Liverpool is fantastic,” Nigel Thompson, a member of the organising team, said.

“The kind support of the Audio Academy will mean those who could well be creating the ‘must-listen to’ podcasts of the future will be there.”

As well as the Audio Academy PodFest North is supported by Audio UK, the Liverpool Combined Authority and Liverpool Business Improvement District. Tickets are priced at £50 and are on sale now.
