Influential, the integrated communications and creative marketing agency, has been appointed by The Salvation Army, to provide public relations support to its iconic site in Liverpool, Strawberry Field.
Strawberry Field was immortalised by John Lennon in The Beatles hit, ‘Strawberry Fields Forever’ and later given a second lease of life by lower tier Madchester outfit Candy Flip, whose version of The Beatles’ track reached number three on the UK charts in 1990.
The site is now an interactive experience which tells interweaving stories of The Salvation Army, the history of the location, which was previously a children’s home up until 2005, John Lennon’s childhood and relationship with the area, and the writing and recording of the legendary song.
It’s also home to further pop history in the shape of the world-famous ‘Imagine’ piano that Lennon used to compose and record one of the great peace anthems of the 20th century, on loan courtesy of the estate of the late Wham! singer George Michael.
The account was won following a competitive pitching process, with the agency chosen for its creative excellence, experience in visitor attraction PR, and ability to secure coverage across a range of regional and national media titles.

Influential has been tasked with creating media moments to celebrate Lennon’s upcoming would-be 85th birthday, raising awareness of the attraction, and driving visitor numbers.
Sara Wilde-McKeown, managing director at Influential, said: “We are delighted to be working with The Salvation Army to support with PR for Strawberry Field and we’re looking forward to helping make the next few months, including John Lennon’s 85th birthday, a huge success.
“We have a wealth of experience in supporting leisure and visitor attraction brands, creating exciting media moments and securing great coverage. Strawberry Field is rich with compelling stories – from its deep ties to John Lennon’s childhood, to the inspiration behind one of The Beatles’ most iconic songs. We’re excited to help bring those stories to life.”
