Yorkshire Tea marketing guru and Doctor Who IP growth strategist join Screen Yorkshire in double board boost

Screen Yorkshire has appointed Dom Dwight and Athena Witter to its board of directors as the organisation finalises the development of its Screen Sector Growth Strategy 2026–29 – an ambitious plan to future-proof Yorkshire’s screen sector for the years ahead.

The growth strategy sets out seven priorities, including building a creator economy, growing economy, growing indigenous businesses, and unlocking wider economic value, and the new board members bring complementary expertise that directly serves these ambitions.

Yorkshire’s screen sector has seen production turnover rise 50% and employment nearly double since 2017. Now, Screen Yorkshire is focused on the next phase: Ensuring the region retains the long-term economic value that production creates.

Dwight is one of the UK’s most respected marketing strategists, best known for leading Yorkshire Tea from a regional challenger brand to the UK’s number one brew during his 18-year tenure at Taylors of Harrogate. His experience in building a beloved regional brand into a national category leader, aligns directly with Screen Yorkshire’s ambition to raise the international profile of the region’s screen sector and develop stronger indigenous businesses.

Joining Dwight on the board is Witter, founder of Engine Pop, a creative and commercial content growth studio working with producers, founders, and organisations building IP in a digital-first world. Witter has built and delivered commercial growth across some of the world’s most recognised entertainment IP, including Bluey, BBC Earth, Doctor Who, Emmerdale, Coronation Street, Britain’s Got Talent, The X Factor, Love Island, and I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!

Her deep expertise in digital platforms, creator economies, and IP development is directly relevant to Screen Yorkshire’s strategic priority of building a creator economy and supporting Yorkshire’s screen businesses to compete and own value in an increasingly digital and platform-driven industry.

Chief executive of Screen Yorkshire, Caroline Cooper Charles said: “Dom and Athena bring exactly the kinds of expertise we need as we move into this next critical phase. Our Growth Strategy 2026–29 calls for a bolder approach, one that builds long-term value in the region.

“Their combined backgrounds in brand, digital media and IP development will be invaluable as we work to make Yorkshire not just a great place to make content, but a great place to own it.”

The two new board appointments follow the recent appointment of Wayne Davison to the board and the election of Andrew Sheldon as the new chair of Screen Yorkshire.
