TransPennine Express to serve up “taste of the Commonwealth”

With just 13 days to go until the start of the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, brands are gearing up their promotional activity.

TransPennine Express is launching a food-based celebration of the games, while organisers have revealed the Scottish soundtrack to the Opening Ceremony.

TPE will be changing its First Class menu, with a limited edition onboard selection of food ranging from Jamaican Jerk Chicken with Coconut Rice to a West Coast Cheeseboard.

There will also be flavours from West Africa, India, Australia and New Zealand.

“The Commonwealth Games are all about bringing people together, and we wanted to reflect that by celebrating the flavours and cultures of countries and continents across the Commonwealth,” said Andy McClements, Customer Experience & Transformation Director at TransPennine Express.

“We hope our limited-edition menu gives First Class customers something different to enjoy as they travel, whether they’re heading to the games or simply travelling on our West Coast services.”

ScotRail has also announced that it will be adding an extra 1,452 carriages to its services throughout the games.

Meanwhile organisers have revealed a few more details about the music acts taking stage at the Hydro arena on 23 July.

The Opening Ceremony will feature a cast of 600 volunteers, headlined by KT Tunstall.

She’ll be joined by Nathan Evans and Saint PHNX, Callum Beattie, Nina Nesbitt and Valtos.

“Glasgow doesn’t do things in half measures – we sing louder, dance harder and are known for throwing our doors open wider than anywhere else. On 23 July, we will share that spirit with 74 nations from across the Commonwealth in this beautifully curated ceremony,” stated Louisa Mahon, Chief Marketing and Ceremonies Officer at Glasgow 2026.

“An Opening Ceremony is the extension of the host city’s culture and we’re proud to put the future of Scottish music and current homegrown stars on a bill alongside artists like KT Tunstall, who helped lay the foundations for emerging artists in Scotland.

“They won’t just be providing a soundtrack. The show is a love letter to Glasgow, to Scotland and to the Commonwealth nations we’re about to welcome with open arms.”
