Holly Willoughby and Dermot O’Leary paid a touching tribute to late This Morning vacuum cleaner expert and Liverpool politician Matty Locke as they opened today’s show.
The pair took time to remember the youthful, late councillor and campaigner who has passed away aged just 19 years old.
Locke regularly appeared on the ITV daytime show to review vacuum cleaners and share his unique passion for the world of suction-based cleaning tools – an obsession that Locke says began when he received a Henry the Hoover toy aged just two. By 2028, aged just 13 Matty had sold around 300 machines to cleaning companies, private homeowners and even his own schoolteachers.
“He was a much-loved member of our team and always brought joy and warmth to our studio,” Willoghby told viewers. “He had an infectious passion for gadgets and technology that was truly unique.”
“His love of vacuums began when he was just two years old and he received his first toy Henry,” O’Leary added. “He became a politician, campaigner and a much-loved member of the programme.”
Beyond the world of vacuum cleaners, Matty was a popular member of the Labour Party in Liverpool’s Sefton and Merseyside and was recently elected as a town councillor in Maghull.
Labour North West Tweeted: “I want to express our deepest condolences at the loss of Cllr Matty Lock. He had his whole life ahead of him, with huge potential who I know was admired and loved across our party. Our thoughts are with his mum and dad and family at this difficult time.
