North East favourite Greggs has unveiled the full menu for its first-ever pub, opening inside Newcastle’s Fenwick department store this weekend.
In a marketing and brakding masterstroke from everyone’s favourite pastry purveyors, The Golden Flake Tavern will serve its first pints on Saturday 27 September, with a line-up that brings together bakery classics, pub staples and some exclusive new drinks.
On tap are two specially brewed beers from Full Circle Brew Co – the Gosforth 1939 Stottie Lager and the Pink Jammie Pale Ale – alongside Guinness, Menabrea and Orchard Pig cider. A Greggs-inspired cocktail list features drinks such as the Pink Jammie Fizz, The 96 Mule (named after the layers in a sausage roll) and The Spiced Caramel Doughnut Old Fashioned.
The food offering runs from snacks like sausage rolls with Bloody Mary ketchup, mac ‘n’ cheese bites and fried chicken goujons with Korean mayo, through to pub classics with a Greggs twist. These include the Chicken Bake Parmo, Steak Bake Mixed Grill and Sausage Roll & Mash, with vegan options available. Sharing boards range from a traditional Ploughman’s Platter to “A Taste of the Golden Flake” – a basket of chicken goujons, potato wedges, parmo, mac ‘n’ cheese bites and the inevitable sausage roll.
Desserts are equally on-brand: the Yum Yum Bread & Butter Pudding and Pink Jammie Trifle both reimagine Greggs favourites for the pub setting. Sundays will see a full carvery, but with a choice of Greggs bakes – steak, chicken or cheese & onion – as the centrepiece of the roast, served with Yorkshire puddings, cauliflower cheese and roast potatoes.

The pub, which can seat 88 people, will also host a weekly quiz night from October. Bookings open midday Thursday.
Hannah Squirrell, customer director at Greggs, said: “Following the reaction and success of our previous collaborations with Fenwick – Bistro by Greggs in 2023 and the Greggs Champagne Bar last year – we’re thrilled to be launching our third landmark venture together. The Golden Flake Tavern brings a fresh twist to the traditional British pub experience.”
Leo Fenwick, strategic partnerships director at Fenwick, added: “As two North East icons, we’re proud to work together again in offering customers something playful, surprising and truly unique in the heart of Newcastle.”
The Golden Flake Tavern will remain open until 15 February 2025.
