Marketing agency Sportfive has signed up for a 13,600 sq ft space on the second floor of Altrincham’s former Rackhams department store.

The former department store is being redeveloped into an office scheme under Bruntwood and Trafford Council’s Foundation scheme.

Sportfive, as the name implies, specialises in the sports sector and includes the first stadium naming deal in Germany and the first UEFA European Championships broadcast deal with a private agency among its achievements. It has taken a 10-year lease on the space – the first office space to be leased in Foundation – and will relocate from its current home in Wilmslow, doubling the size of its office.

The Foundation scheme is due to complete this autumn and will comprise 50,000 sq ft of workspace and 25,000 sq ft earmarked for retail and leisure.

“As we near completion of Foundation, it is incredibly exciting to be building our community of forward-thinking and innovative businesses that will make it one of the most exciting workspaces in Greater Manchester,” said Sharon Johnson, head of commercial at Bruntwood.

“Sportfive is a perfect example of a business that has its entrepreneurial and ambitious roots in Manchester, which has seen it expand globally, meaning it has much to offer the wider community of customers that will be based at Foundation.”

Sportfive may have claimed the title of “first office” in Foundation, but it’s not quite the first tenant. That honour goes to bowling brand Lane7, which will occupy the 12,640 sq ft lower ground floor at the mixed-use scheme.
