Sky introduces “Game Mode” for Manchester City clash

Sky Sports is trialling a new camera angle for this weekend’s Premier League game between Arsenal and Manchester City.

Dubbed “Game Mode” it has been influenced by how gamers interact with football titles like EA FC and will track the action from side to side. This will be achieved by mounting a camera on a gantry-level rail.

Sky and the Premier League believe that the new angle will give fans more of an understanding of how teams use space and how they move across the pitch.

The camera feed will be made available to all of the Premier League’s domestic and international broadcast partners.

It was trialled during Arsenal Women’s opening day game against Liverpool and if it proves successful will be used at all games taking place at the Emirates Stadium this season.

Rachael Nightingale, the Premier League’s Head of Media Operations and Innovation told The Athletic that they were “always looking for ways to enhance the broadcast experience for fans around the world.”

Sky Sports will air the Game Mode camera on an alternative feed of the match.
