Red Production Co options The Movement

Red Production Company has bought the rights to Ayisha Malik’s new book, The Movement.

The MediaCityUK production company has taken up the option before the book has even been released.

“The news is out. Delighted The Movement has been optioned by the brilliant Red Production Company,” wrote Malik on Twitter.

The Movement is Malik’s 4th novel, following the critically acclaimed Sofia Khan is Not Obliged, The Other Half of Happiness and This Green and Pleasant Land.

The book has been described as a “revelation and revolution all in one” as the main character, Sara Javed gets so frustrated that everyone online and outside is shouting about something.

“Couldn’t they all just shut up? One day she takes her own advice. At first people don’t understand her silence and are politely confused at best.

“But the last thing Sara could anticipate is becoming the figurehead of a global movement that splits society in two. The Silent Movement sparks outrage in its opposers.”

Red Production Company plans to adapt the book into an “ambitious” television series. There is a writer attached, but they have yet to be named, nor has a broadcaster.

The indie, which is owned by StudioCanal, is currently without a CEO, following Sarah Doole’s departure. Alex Hamilton, Chief Executive of StudioCanal UK and Françoise Guyonnet, Executive MD of TV Series have temporarily stepped in to oversee the company.
