The STV Player hit a monthly streaming record of 16.4m in January – driven by Northern dramas.
The figure is 500k higher than its previous high of 15.9m in November 2024.
It credited the impressive performance to its newly launched “Soap Power Hour” which sees it air Emmerdale and Coronation Street back-to-back from 8pm to 9pm on weekdays, with a 7am drop on the STV Player. That boosted streams by 59% year-on-year.
New dramas After The Flood and Red Eye were also popular during the period, with 2.6m streams. After The Flood is made by Manchester’s Quay Street Productions, with post production at dock10.
Brookside remains a hit on the platform. The Liverpool soap, which it acquired in 2023 averaged 1.2m streams across the last 3 months. Its achieved over 36m streams to date, with more than 800 episodes viewed. Helped in part by the recent tie-in with Hollyoaks.
“Our strong mix of network programmes alongside carefully selected acquisitions sees us deliver a rich mix of binge-worthy titles which our audiences can’t get enough of,” said Richard Williams, MD of Audience at STV.
“We’ve lots of exciting content coming up, not to mention the Six Nations campaign including The Calcutta Cup, which always performs well for us; and there’s the small matter of the FIFA World Cup, which will bring the nation together. These events alongside an abundance of top drama, entertainment and factual shows means that we have plenty to offer fans of the Player and new visitors alike. As we continue to see shifts in viewing consumption, we are confident that STV Player is a strong player in a busy market with an exciting year ahead.”
