Matmi behind Queensland tourism games

Matmi in Cheshire has partnered with MDSG to produce a series of educational games to promote Queensland, Australia.

The in-browser games will be used to promote the various regions of the area and educate travel agents.

Based on the Commonwealth Games, which were on the Gold Coast, it features triathlon-inspired events where players navigate hurdles and obstacles, playing as a kangaroo.

“Creating a Kangaroo character who feels as at home riding a bike as he does swimming the Great Barrier Reef was no mean feat. To deliver the right messages whilst keeping the games fun we needed to strike a fine balance between playability and education,” explained Matt Powell, lead designer of the game.

The game aims to motivate and encourage industry colleagues by offering games and a leader board.

“We’ve got a strong history of assisting with the development of games and to do this with Matmi and Queensland was a great opportunity – we created friendly competition between agents and agencies; it’s an interactive platform to learn more about the destination in a fun and engaging fashion,” added Kevin Harris, mannaging director of MDSG.
