Manchester is leading the UK pack as AI takes over our lives, with more AI searches per person than any other UK city.
The other good/bad news is that Newcastle is second as the robots slowly integrate themselves into our lives and prefer gor the birth of Genisys.
According to new research from ramsac, the UK makes over 4.8 million monthly searches related to AI tools and ChatGPT nationwide, and Manchester is at the forefront, with almost half of Mancunians searching AI related terms every day
Total number of searches made for AI and ChatGPT related terms per 1,000 people per month:
- Manchester: 509
- Newcastle-upon-Tyne: 471
- Birmingham: 374
- London: 363
- Coventry: 306
Manchester tops the list as the UK city using AI and ChatGPT the most with 509 ChatGPT-related searches made per 1,000 people monthly. This was followed by Newcastle (471) and Birmingham (374) — with London (363) taking fourth place. This suggests that smaller but digitally ambitious cities are punching far above their weight in AI interest and adoption.

Despite Manchester leading per capita engagement, London remains the most AI-reliant city overall, generating nearly 3m AI-related searches monthly — over 10x more than any other city. This reflects both the city’s size and its tech-savvy population.
In a not entirely surprising statisic, the rest of the top 5 five by volume was made up of Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow and Bristol, so something of a population correlation taking place.
While cities like Manchester and Newcastle lead the way with around 500 AI-related searches per 1,000 people, many coastal and southern cities fall drastically behind.
Intriguingly, prominent coastal cities like Southampton (110), Swansea (111) and Cardiff (111) are five times less likely to search for AI-related terms. While Plymouth leads this group with 156 searches per 1,000 people, that’s still less than a third of Manchester’s rate of 509.
The study’s makers at ramsac added: “AI models can produce information confidently and with a general high degree of accuracy. But mistakes can be made, AI can produce incorrect or outdated information, especially on specialised or recent topics.
Always fact-check and verify critical data before publishing or using it for decisions. Being aware of AI’s limitations helps avoid mistakes and builds trust in your final output.”
