Manchester City searching for new media agency

Manchester City is on the hunt for a new media agency after receiving a two-year ban from the UEFA Champions League for breaching financial fair-play rules.

City Football Group, who owns the club as well as a number of other clubs including New York City FC and Melbourne City FC, have put out requests for information to agencies.

City parted ways with its last media agency, PHD Manchester, following a widely ridiculed campaign calling for influencers to ‘help promote the atmosphere at the Etihad’.

The mocked campaign seems almost forgotten in the wake of their expulsion from what is seen as football’s most important club competition, the Champions League.

The two-year ban, which the club said it would appeal, was handed out after questions arose over the club’s sponsorship revenues.

Der Speigel published leaked documents in 2018 that showed how the annual income from the club’s main sponsor, Etihad, was actually coming primarily from the football club’s owner, Sheikh Mansour.

With the current stoppage of football games across the world due to the coronavirus pandemic, there’s still a lot of uncertainty around how this year’s Champions League competition will continue, and how next year’s will also be affected.
