PR and social agency Democracy PR is expanding operations with the opening of a second office in Soho, in the heart of London, in addition to its existing Manchester HQ.
Rhona Templer, formerly managing director of Gold79, has been hired as managing director, London, for the award-winning agency as it puts boots on the ground in the capital for the first time.
There’s no let up in Manchester with the opening down South. The growth plan is mirrored here too, where client services director Hannah Lebon becomes managing director, Manchester and founder Jen O’Grady moves into the role of CEO.
O’ Grady said: “Lots of agencies outside of London like to complain about the London bubble. We’re taking a different approach, and bringing our people-powered insights to the capital, along with our reputation for hard graft, creativity, value and measurable difference all wrapped up in northern charm.
“In the 17 years we’ve been in business, we’ve learnt how challenger brands can win by understanding and engaging the 87% of people who live outside of the capital.”
Joining MD, London, Rhona Templer to launch the expansion in Soho will be Graeme McGilliard, who has been part of the Manchester team for 12 years.
Templer said: “I was attracted to join the team because of their challenger brand proposition, their people, their clients and their investment in delivering market leading AI primed comms. The PR and social landscape is changing, which brings opportunity for market disruption. We have both the mindset and skill set to unlock that opportunity for our clients.
“As a London native with decades of experience delivering work in the capital, my role will be to work alongside the leadership team, growing our presence and connecting the Democracy proposition to the London market.”
Democracy’s client roster includes Flymo, Gardena, ATAG, Delamere Health, Certas, Orbia, Tequila Rose, Five Farms, Eisberg and Fray Bentos. The team of 27 staff is headquartered in Manchester.
Announcing the news on LinkedIn, CEO O’Grady added: “Making an investment like this feels like a brave step forward, but it’s only possible because of the support we get from team and community. This move is made on the understanding that we remain committed to promoting and protecting our existing client partners, being true to our values and making a measurable difference each and every day.
“The kettle is always on and we do hope you’ll visit us in Manchester and London.”
