Maki & Ramen success with Yorkshire-themed mash-up menu

A Yorkshire Tea Iced Matcha and a Sunday Roast Ramen, complete with Yorkshire Pudding, has helped a Japanese restaurant hit the headlines.

Maki & Ramen appointed fellow Leeds firm, Aubergine PR, to raise its profile to boost reach and hit sales targets.

Within a few weeks of being appointed, Aubergine came up with a “quick win” PR and social media strategy, working with Executive Chef, Sophie Wang, to create a limited-edition Yorkshire Day mash-up menu.

The aforementioned Iced Matcha and Sunday Roast Ramen were followed by a Builder’s Brew Crème Brûlée.

That generated 30 pieces of coverage and reached a combined audience of 3.2m. BBC Radio Leeds brought in Wang so that a presenter could try the dishes and there were also features in The Yorkshire Post.

“We are absolutely thrilled with the PR and social media impact generated by Aubergine’s Yorkshire Day campaign,” said Rebecca Cuthbertonson, Marketing Manager at Makin & Ramen.

“Our Leeds site is now hitting targets week on week which is amazing and I definitely credit the agency with helping us achieve this.”

Emma Gardner, Co-Founder of Aubergine and former BBC and Channel 4 News journalist, added:

“When it comes to standing out in Leeds’ bustling food scene, sometimes it takes a bold, playful PR idea to really capture the media’s attention. I’m really proud that with our journalistic “nose for news” we managed to come up with something really unique that turned journalists’ heads – and ultimately, translated into an increase in people visiting Maki & Ramen.”
