A new documentary following the life of a man who has turned his life around with the help of the Lake District’s stunning countryside and some top-drawer culinary treats will release online this Friday.
The online release follows a sell-out premier at the Alpkit store in Keswick.
Fixed by the Fells tells the story of Harrison Ward, aka the Fell Foodie, and how he used the mountains and lakes to recover from alcoholism and cope with his mental health challenges. Ward has now turned his passion for hiking in the Lake District and cooking into his vocation, appearing at food and outdoor festivals, giving motivational speeches, acquiring sponsorship for his walking and cooking activities from brands including Volvo, and even appearing on popular TV shows such as Mary Berry: Love to Cook.
Ward, who lives in Ambleside, struggled with mental health issues from a young age. He became a heavy drinker and smoker as a coping mechanism and became severely overweight in his 20s. The documentary, shot over a four-year period by Garth Dew of Preston’s GD Video, details how he began to turn his life around after vowing to get sober six years ago, and how the Lakeland fells played a key part in the process.
The film will release on the FellFoodie YouTube channel this Friday, and Dew notes that he is also hoping to give the film a run out at on the festival circuit later in the year.
