After over 40 years in marketing roles, Jennifer Ferrier and Sophie Munton are turning their focus to building their Leeds-based community group, The Insiders, alongside their independent roles as consultants to SMEs and marketing agencies.
Launched in Oct 2024, The Insiders is a community group specifically for marketers in solo roles. Having grown organically over the last 12 months, the community group is now being accelerated as Ferrier and Munton, both ex-agency marketing directors, step out as independent growth and marketing consultants and are giving a renewed focus to The Insiders.
Being in a solo marketing role can be lonely and isolating, especially in a marketing role where you are expected to be all things to all people and a master of everything, so The Insiders was originally founded to fill a gap in the market for a place for solo marketers to come together with other marketers who get it.

The Insiders, which is free to join, has grown from monthly meetings in the pub to monthly webinars, a place where challenges and learnings can be shared, centred around one core topical subject. Alongside in-person events and socials, where marketers can lessen the load and build up their network.
Ferrier, ex-Boutique, CreativeRace, and Morrisons said, “Over the coming weeks, you can expect a calendar of events, rich in content that gives practical guidance to those who frankly have no one else to lead on for support or advice. We’re also building a bank of tools and reference guides that solo marketers can reach for and cut out hours of research, but with real human experience and expertise poured into them.”
Munton, ex-Principles, Audience Collective, and Nectar said, “Human connection is more important than ever, marketers are expected to know it all, and that can take its toll; there are many community groups out there, but none that focus on solo marketers.”
As part of the evolution of The Insiders, a new workshop will also launch in April 2026, designed for small-medium agencies that want to invest in their own brand marketing but don’t have the tools or the bandwidth to get started. The workshop will provide agencies with a framework that identifies the opportunities for them to reach their ICP, guidance on the steps they need to take to create their own marketing plan, and help set out the objectives they want to achieve.
