Kinky for cash – Tern TV and Sydney Lima investigate findom culture in debut C4 nations and regions digital factual commission

Glasgow-based Tern TV, a Zinc Media label, has been commissioned to make Findoms: Uncovered, a 1×25’ film that will air on Channel 4 Documentaries on YouTube and is the first commission to be greenlit on the back of Channel 4’s Nations and Regions Digital Factual Brief.

Made in partnership with Screen Scotland, Findoms: Uncovered sees presenter, journalist and model Sydney Lima investigate the world of financial domination in which men hand over cash, usually to women, in exchange for humiliation, power play and control.

Lima travels the UK to meet women making money from financial domination, exploring the activities these women undertake, seeing the cash roll in and discovering the highs and lows of working in this fast-growing digital subculture. On the surface financial domination looks like easy money, but is anything really that simple?

Laura Marks, senior digital commissioning editor for Channel 4, said: “The response to our Nations and Regions Factual Brief brought us so many brilliant ideas specifically for YouTube and Findoms: Uncovered is the first of a slate of new commissions.”

Lima said: “I was absolutely chuffed when Laura Marks approached me to front this documentary. My work has long been driven by a fascination with online subcultures – particularly the increasingly blurred lines between influencer culture and sex work. Thanks to Tern, we were able to get closer than ever to the world of financial domination and explore and shed light on this often-misunderstood community.”

David Marshall, executive producer at Tern TV, the producer of docs including Our Lives” The Haggis Hunters and Jailed: Women in Prison, added: “We’re thrilled to be working with Channel 4 and Screen Scotland on Findoms: Uncovered, Tern TV’s first digital commission. Sydney Lima dives headfirst into a fascinating world, bringing curiosity and insight to help viewers understand a complex subculture. It’s a bold and exciting first step for Tern into digital, and we can’t wait for audiences to see it.”

Findoms: Uncovered airs on Channel 4 Documentaries on YouTube on Thursday October 23 from 5pm. The film was commissioned by Laura Marks, with Sacha Khari, Channel 4’s outgoing head of digital commissioning.
