Hollyoaks and Virgin River star issues heartbreaking plea after mystery death of mum and step-father

Scottish actor and former Hollyoaks star Callum Kerr has issued a heartbreaking plea following the tragic deaths of his mother, Dawn Searle, and her husband, Andrew Searle, in southwest France.

The couple, both in their 60s, were found dead at their home in the rural hamlet of Les Pesquiès, near Villefranche-de-Rouergue, on Thursday. A neighbour reportedly discovered Dawn’s body outside the house, while Andrew was found inside.

Local authorities have launched an investigation, with regional prosecutor Nicolas Rigot-Muller confirming that both individuals “died violent deaths.” However, officials have yet to determine whether the case is being treated as a homicide, stating that all possibilities remain open.

Kerr, who is also known for his role in Netflix’s Virgin River, issued a statement through a representative, pleading for privacy as he and his sister Amanda grieve their mother’s passing, while Tom and Ella Searle mourn their father. The family has said they will provide updates as appropriate.

A representative of Scottish-born actor Kerr said: “At this time, Callum Kerr and Amanda Kerr are grieving the loss of their mother, Dawn Searle (nee Smith, Kerr), while Tom Searle and Ella Searle are mourning the loss of their father, Andrew Searle. We kindly request that their privacy be respected during this difficult period.”

Dawn and Andrew Searle had moved to France from Scotland around a decade ago and married in the summer of 2023, with Kerr walking his mother down the aisle.

The UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office has confirmed that it is supporting the family and liaising with local authorities as the investigation continues.
