Investec Asset Finance has filed a winding-up petition to the High Court against West Yorkshire rugby league club Featherstone Rovers.
It is unclear exactly what the alleged debts relate to, but the asset arm of the investment giant has instructed law firm Gunnercooke for the action.
This is not the first winding up petition the club has faced. According to the High Court system, the three-time Challenge Cup winner has been named in nine cases since 2014.
It was also reported in the i paper in March that player agent Damien Dussault was considering action against the club. He claimed he is owed £7,500 in agents’ fees, and that his clients Johnathon Ford and Mark Kheirallah are also allegedly owed thousands of pounds by the club.
A spokesperson for Featherstone Rovers told City A.M., which first reported the latest application, that the club expects to resolve the issue with its presumed creditors: “This matter we are in discussions with Investec about and we expect to resolve shortly,” he said.
The West Yorkshire club is currently competing in the Championship, the second tier of British rugby league. The Rovers played their last game on Sunday at home, and lost to Swinton Lions by a score of 42-40. They currently sit in fourth place in the league.
