The port of Grimsby is hoping to capitalise on the newfound popularity of its North Bank Humber neighbour Hull’s newfound population as a filming location.

Associated British Ports, which operates both Hull and Grimsby Ports, on opposite banks of the estuary, took to Twitter to highlight the port’s potential as a filming location following a spotlight on ITV’s Calendar local news show on Friday evening.

Neighbouring Hull is currently playing host to its largest production to date as Blitz, a new Apple TV+ drama starring Stephen Graham and Saoirse Ronan takes over the city.

Blitz is a wartime drama based on an idea from director and writer, Steve McQueen and is currently filming at locations including Hepworth Arcade and Walton Street fairground and has recruited more than 750 extras.

Hull also recently played host to Netflix’s smash hit The Crown.

ABP has entered a partnership with North East Lincolnshire Council and Historic England, to promote the port’s ‘Kasbah’ area as a filming location. A website dedicated to the Kasbah explains: “The Kasbah has a selection of genuine Victorian and post war buildings, quiet streets, factory space and dockside.

With just under 100 historic buildings dating from the 1880s to post Second World War, it makes it an ideal period location spanning over 100 years.”

The Kasbah ihas already hosted shoots inclusing Netflix and Moonage Picture’s Bodies, Discovery’s Wheeler Dealers, the 2007 film Atonement, and Three Day Millionaire, about a gang of Grimsby trawlermen who carry out the heist of a lifetime, which will air on Netflix on February 25.
