Former Disney and The Path seniors join Pathway advisory board

Virtual Production company Pathway has appointed senior media and entertainment executives Paul Robinson and Spencer Phillips to its advisory board.

Robinson and Phillips join Amanda Nevill CBE in an advisory capacity to the media-tech company based in Manchester.

Media entrepreneur Robinson is a veteran of television and digital formats and a specialist in children’s entertainment. In his prior role as senior VP and managing director of The Walt Disney Company, Robinson was responsible for global programming and production strategy for Disney Channels Worldwide. He is currently president of NYSE-quoted Kartoon Channel and has also served in senior roles at the BBC, NBC Universal and Talk Radio.

Phillips also joins Pathway’s advisory board, bringing a dynamic background encompassing brand development, programming and sales and marketing for organisations including Ticketmaster, LW Theatres, TCAT, Showtown Blackpool and The Path Entertainment Group.

Phillips said: “Pathway provides new and innovative ways for IP holders to creatively explore the benefits of real-time technology to create content that will play a pivotal role in the future of how new ideas are produced. It’s a pleasure to be engaged with a forward thinking team during a dynamic chapter of industry change.”

Nathan Newman, Pathway co-founder, added: “Adding such expert knowledge and diverse experience to our advisory board is a real honour. Creative innovation is at the forefront of what audiences want to experience and what emerging talent want to produce. Paul and Spencer bring vital experience and sharp thinking to this emergent time for creative media.”

Pathway is a Manchester-based innovation lab and production facility specialising in work filmed using virtual production stages. Its VP stage is named in honour of film industry legend and first British Film Commissioner Sir Sydney Samuelson.

Since its December 2022 launch, Pathway has hosted talent such as Jason Derulo and filmed for end clients such as Mclaren, BBC Three and NBC. It is the first virtual production studio to shoot 65mm celluloid on a VP stage.

Its first year in operation has also featured the launch of a first-of-its-kind virtual production incubator to help support entrepreneurs to develop early stage creative media content, and Newman says the appointment of Robinson and Phillips is “intended to set the stage for an equally strong onward journey into 2024.”
