A former programme editor of both BBC News and ITV’s News at Ten has been named as the new director of communications at Liverpool City Council.

Camilla Mankabady was until May 2018 the programme editor for ITV’s flagship news programme, having previously been senior programme editor for the Ten O’clock News, Six O’Clock News, One O’clock News during a 14-year spell with the BBC.

Since leaving ITV, she has worked as a consultant to France-based TV station Euronews.

She announced the move on Twitter:

She added on LinkedIn: “I am hugely honoured to have recently been appointed the new Communications Director for Liverpool City Council.

“In an age of government austerity, Brexit fears and global downturn it is hugely important that we have local government leaders who are willing to make bold decisions to help transform lives and regions.”

The role has been newly created by new chief executive Tony Reeves after a review of his management team.

The comms team covers the press office, internal comms, marketing and digital and includes around 25 staff.
