National World is seeking to transform the print editions of its newspapers with a new publishing team.

The National World Daily Press Division will cover titles including the Yorkshire Evening Post, Sheffield Star, Lancashire Post, Blackpool Gazette, Sunderland Echo and Shields Gazette.

Led by newly appointed Publisher, Tim Robinson and Managing Editor, Neil Pickford, they have been tasked with “reinvigorating” the print editions.

It stated that it would be adopting a new publishing model and developing a set of innovative print designs.

“This is a really exciting opportunity to re-imagine the fortunes of the daily newspaper and to put the reader back at the heart of the creative journalistic process,” explained Robinson.

“The new daily press team is made up of a wealth of experienced regional journalists who care passionately about newspapers and the people who read them.

“And there will be a host of new opportunities for our advertisers and corporate sponsors to reach a highly engaged audience in new, innovative ways.”

New Editors

National World has also announced a restructure of its Cities division, with a number of new editors and promotions.

Ross Robertson has been appointed as Editor for the Sunderland Echo and Liam Kennedy, Editor of Newcastle World, will take over the editorship of Shields Gazette.

They will now both join the Cities division, as will The Blackpool Gazette and Lancashire Evening Post once their new editors have been recruited.

It said that this would “further prioritise” its growing digital success and focus on building its bigger city titles’ online audiences.

This has meant a number of promotions, with Nicola Adam in the North West and Gary Oliver in the North East moving into group-wide roles as Publishing Editors, who’ll report into Laura Collins.

These new roles will give Adam and Oliver responsibility for aligning content, audience and revenues across their regions.

The changes go into effect on Monday, February 6.
