Three of the leading figures in Northern tech and ecommerce will feature in a special event being hosted by Prolific North this week.

The Top 75 Tech and Ecommerce Companies Reveal, sponsored by The Candidate, will take place at Colony Jactin House in Manchester on Thursday, November 18th.

It will feature three fascinating speakers who each bring unmissable insight from their experience running three significant Northern-based operations.

Steve Oliver, co-founder of Manchester-based tech success story musicMagpie, will take attendees on an inspirational journey from his garage - where he founded the refurbished consumer technology company in 2007 - to the stock market, where it floated earlier this year with a market cap of £208m.

After an initial focus on DVDs and CDs, musicMagpie has shifted to a model of buying, refurbishing and reselling unwanted gadgets, and is now the UK’s largest phone recycler.

Also appearing at the event will be Nick Glynne, founder and MD of Buy It Direct.

Glynne has grown the Huddersfield-based company - which incorporates brands including Laptops Direct and Appliances Direct - into a £436million-turnover Northern giant.

A former documentary maker, Glynne bought Easy Computers (now Laptops Direct) in 1999 and has since transformed a number of other businesses through his mottos 'Anything is possible' and 'Detail is everything'.

And finally Mark Sellers, MD at TalkTalk Business Direct, one of the UK’s fastest-growing B2B telecoms providers, will bring a B2B perspective as he discusses why the business market is now such a key part of the whole TalkTalk group strategy.

Oliver said: “I am delighted to be taking part in Prolific North’s Top 75 event on behalf of musicMagpie.

"Companies in the North West continue to play a leading role in the UK’s technology and ecommerce sectors, and there is a huge amount for us to be collectively proud of. The last 18 months have produced some very significant challenges for businesses across the region, but equally there have been huge opportunities for those who have been innovative, adaptable and flexible enough to grab them.

"This event is a fantastic opportunity to come together to celebrate success, share experiences, and assess the outlook for the North West business community’s future.”

The Top 75 ranking, which has been compiled by independent research partners Mustard, will be a benchmark for the tech and ecommerce sector in the North of England right now.

We're very pleased to be partnering with The Candidate on this year's event.

Laura Walters, Recruitment Board Director at The Candidate, said: "Having offered recruitment consultancy for Tech & eCommerce businesses for a decade now, many of whom will appear in the list, we wanted to support the recognition and promotion they all deserve.

"We all know how challenging the last 18 months or so has been for employees in all companies, so this year’s list will be a special credit to everyone who helped them achieve their positions."
