The Beatles’ film, Let It Be, will be released on Disney+ later this month – the first time its been available in more than 50 years.
The streaming service said that there had been “fan clamour” for the original film to be released, in the wake of Peter Jackson’s multiple award-winning docuseries, The Beatles: Get Back.
The 1970 film was directed by Michael Lindsay-Hogg, who has given it his “full support.”
Originally filmed around the band’s break-up, Disney+ stated that this new airing would let the film “take its rightful place in the band’s history.”
Apple Corps asked Jackson’s Park Road Post Production to restore it from the original 16mm negative, which included remastering the sound using the same MAL de-mix technology that was applied to the Get Back docuseries.
Let It Be stars John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr, with a special appearance by Billy Preston.
The film was produced by Neil Aspinall with The Beatles acting as executive producers. The director of photography was Anthony B Richmond.
Let It Be will debut exclusively on Disney+ May 8, 2024.
