Cumbria, Lancashire, Manchester and Liverpool get the content sharing bug as new BBC local radio schedules reach North West

The North West is to be the latest beneficiary of the BBC’s new local radio schedules, with new programming coming to Radio Manchester, Merseyside, Cumbria and Lancashire from next Monday, November 27.

The changes are the latest in the BBC’s national rollout of its new schedules, which have already come to parts of Yorkshire and the North East and as previously reported will see long-term favourites such as Allan Beswick and Linda McDermott disappear from regular schedules.

A quick take on the new schedules reveals that Cumbria and Lancashire will perhaps notice the greatest changes. They’ll be sharing afternoon content on weekdays from 2-6pm, while much evening content will be coming to the entire North West from the BBC’s MediaCityUK base, with some shows also being broadcast regionally from Liverpool.

On Monday evenings from 7pm Cumbria will still receive BBC NE and Cumbria programming courtesy of Emma Millen’s show, coming from Newcastle, while for the rest of the week the two will largely share North West regional programming with Merseyside and Manchester.

In common with the rest of the country, the entire region will receive the new national late night show with Becky Want from Sunday to Thursday.

Saturdays will see Paul Beesley’s 6am-10am slot shared between Merseyside, Lancashire and Cumbria, while the 10am spot to will find Hayley Key broadcasting across Cumbria and Lancashire. Manchester will retain its own Saturday daytime programming, with Phil Trow in the early slot and Simon Riley taking 10am-2pm. The 10am-2pm slot in Liverpool will be filled by Sean Styles.

Kate Squire, senior head of production for BBC North said: “These new schedules are just a part of the exciting local offering we have in store for listeners. With a stacked line-up of presenters who are passionate about the areas they live in, new programming that better reflects audiences across the UK, and a brand-new investigative journalism team coming soon – we’ll be giving audiences a top-notch range of broadcast and online content that’s more local than ever.”
