Cinematic release for Sheffield film X+Y

X+Y, which stars Asa Butterfield (Ender’s Game, Hugo, The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas) will be released in cinemas in the UK next month.

The drama features an autistic maths prodigy (Butterfield), who begins to experience the world different through an “unconventional maths teacher.”

Filmed across Sheffield, with additional scenes shot in Cambridge and Taiwan, it is the first feature drama from BAFTA-winning director, Morgan Matthews.

The film also features Rafe Spall (Prometheus), Sally Hawkins (Paddington) and Eddie Marsan (Sherlock Holmes).

It was produced by David M Thompson (Mandela) and Laura Hastings-Smith (Hunger) and co-produced by Ed Rubin from Origin Pictures. Exec producers include Christine Langan, Joe Oppenheimer, Phil Hunt, Compton Ross and Lizzie Francke and Screen Yorkshire’s Hugo Heppell.

X+Y is an Origin Pictures production for BBC Films and BFI, in association with Head Gear Films and Metrol Technology, Screen Yorkshire and LipSync. The international sales are handled by Bankside Films, with Creative England supporting filming permissions, locations and crew.

It’s cinematic release is March 13th.
