There are just a few days left until Channel 4 reveals the location of its new national headquarters and regional hubs.
However, Liverpool is no longer on the shortlist and Phil Redmond said he “wasn’t surprised” by the decision.
The producer and creator of Hollyoaks and Brookside said “they came with a firm view of where they really needed to be.”
He was speaking exclusively to the monthly podcast, the Baltic Broadcasting Company, which Mick Ord runs with Mark Reeson from Stickleback Corporation.
Adding that the process “wasn’t rigorous enough to be totally transparent” he went on to question whether the headquarters would have either the budget or commissioning powers to be sustainable:
“Channel Four in terms of the overall broadcasting landscape now is a bit like a street burger van compared to the rest of the industry. Amazon, Netflix, Apple – even the BBC’s £4 billion is dwarfed by them.
“Now, ITV is a corner shop, the BBC a local supermarket and as I say Channel Four like a street burger van.”
