Casting reveal for Quay Street’s ITVX drama Significant Other

Significant Other leads Youssef Kerkour and Katherine Parkinson

Quay Street Productions has announced further casting news for its new ITVX comedy-drama, Significant Other.

Katherine Parkinson (The IT Crowd, Here we Go) and Youssef Kerkour (Stay Close) had already been revealed as lonely neighbours Anna and Sam, the leads in the show which is currently filming in Manchester.

They are now joined by actor and musician Kéllé Bryan (Me and Mrs Jones) as Sam’s wife Shelley, mother of their two children, whose entire world is her family and the real estate job she loves; Mark Heap (Friday Night Dinner, Spaced) as Ray; Ben Bailey Smith (Andor, The Split) takes on the role of Damien; Sue Vincent (Alma’s Not Normal, Mount Pleasant) joins as Gina; Shaun Williamson (EastEnders, Extras) as Johnny; Olivia Poulet (Doc Martin, The Thick of It) as Cathy and Will Ash (Death in Paradise, The Rising) as Paul.

This brand-new series is a 6×30-minute episode “unconventional love story” which explores the unromantic romance of two people whose drastic, but fateful, first meeting turns their lives around, will air on the soon-to-launch ITVX in 2023.

It will be the second major production for former Red Productions chief Nicola Shindler’s Quay Street Productions, which she founded in 2021. The company, which sits within the ITV Studios group and focuses on premium drama for the UK and international market, is also currently in production on the Russell T Davies’ drama Nolly, starring Helena Bonham Carter.

Shindler is a multi award-winning British television producer who has worked with an array of writing talent to produce some of the UK’s most successful and award-winning dramas of the last 25 years, including Last Tango in Halifax, Finding Alice and It’s A Sin.
