Dean Sullivan, who was best known for his role as Jimmy Corkhill in Brookside, has died, aged 68.
His family said he “passed away peacefully following a short illness.”
“To millions he was and very much still is remembered as ‘Jimmy’, to family and friends he was ‘Dino’,” the family said in a statement.
“Dean’s family wants to thank Arrowe Park Hospital for their unwavering and consistent support. We ask that you respect their privacy in their time of grief.”
Sullivan was the longest serving cast member on Brookside, playing Jimmy Corkhill from 1986 to 2003. He was involved in some of the soap’s biggest storylines, including discovering the body of Trevor Jordache under a patio.
He remained with the soap until it ended in 2003. During that time he won a Special Recognition Award at the British Soap Awards.
Initially a primary school teacher, before turning becoming a professional actor, he also appeared in Doctors and The Royal.
